The Transition Initiative seeks to create a streamlined process for current animal agriculture workers to transition employment to the new cellular agriculture system.
Similar to the current state of the energy sector, cellular agriculture could drastically change the job availability of traditional farming labor. For instance, the employment opportunities for workers of tanneries and traditional slaughterhouse workers will decrease upon mass commercialization of cellular agriculture and clean meat. This will change what it means to be a producer/farmer of animal products. While expertise will certainly change from manual labor to biotechnology, the basis of this project is to explore the paths to making effective employment transitions not leaving past workers behind.
Members of the Transition Initiative outline the steps necessary, alongside industry experts, to train employees like farmers and slaughterhouse workers to transition to the birthing field of cellular agriculture.
